The Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Environmental Protection has issued a call for research proposals on a variety of environmental fields including air quality, climate change, pest control, biodiversity, seas and coasts, and others. Proposals for scientific research studies are invited on the following subjects: - Implications of anticipated climate changes until 2030 (based on existing models and forecasts and on existing data) on the insurance sector and gross national product (GNP) in Israel according to a business as usual scenario (research).
- Implications of anticipated climate changes in Israel until 2030 (according to existing models and forecasts) on public health (water stress, pest development, disease transmission) (research).
- Health implications of environmental pollution in the Gush Dan/Ashdod and/or Ashkelon areas (research).
- Public health pesticides with lesser impact on the environment as alternatives to existing pesticides (research).
- Research or survey on the contamination of agricultural lands in Israel by radionuclides due to phosphate or sludge fertilization.
- Natural radioactivity in concrete in Israel (survey).
- Diffusion length of radon in sealing materials (survey).
- Stratification or removal of sand on Israel's coastline and/or change in the water line of Israel's coasts - with an emphasis on the impacts of marine structures, sand transfers, initiated excavations and climate impacts (survey).
- Development of ecological indicators for the Mediterranean coastal waters of Israel (research).
- Impact of rehabilitation methods for deteriorating open space systems in Israel on productivity and biodiversity (research).
- Interrelations between media exposure of environmental subjects to environmental legislation initiatives (research).
Submission of Proposals Relevant documents may be obtained on the Hebrew website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection or at the Office of the Chief Scientist, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Sunday to Thursday, between the hours of 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, on Kanfei Nesharim Street 5, 4th Floor, Givat Shaul, Jerusalem, Tel: 02 - 6553754. 6553859 Research proposals must reach the Chief Scientist's Office by January 15, 2010 at 4:00 pm.
